What sparked your interest in global health?
Initially, my interest was sparked by a medical mission trip I took with my family to a village in the Dominican Republic when I was 14 that exposed me to the injustices afflicting people suffering from inconsistent and inaccessible healthcare. My interest in public health matured and evolved throughout high school, college and was refined during my years in the Peace Corps leading me to pursue my MPH at Hopkins.
How do you see yourself making a difference in public health because of the Global Health Scholarship?
This scholarship opens doors to invaluable resources at Hopkins and beyond and will afford me the opportunity to pursue a career (and simultaneously a passion) reshaping the political climate to facilitate access to health for all and simultaneously allowing the advancement of global health strategies and technologies.
Who inspires you and why?
My late grandfather inspires me because of his work ethic, modesty and compassion. Everyday, he lived by the motto "Be the Least," always putting others before himself.
