Nigeria - Vaccine Implementation and Technical Assistance Consortium (VITAC)/ Evaluation of the GAVI consultant program in Nigeria
VITAC isa multi-year, multi-country project funded by the GAVI Alliance and implemented in Nigeria by Johns Hopkins IVAC. The project aims to support Nigeria strengthen the platform for routine immunization (RI) and new vaccine introduction through focused technical assistance, advocacy and operations research. The internship is designed to evaluate a national program that deploys consultants as technical assistance to all 36 states and the FCT. Since inception in 2010, considerable funds have been invested in this program, yet no formal evaluation has been conducted and the government proposes to fund the program for another 5 years. At the request of the GAVI Alliance, IVAC plans to undertake a rapid, retrospective and cross-sectional evaluation of the program using mixed qualitative and quantitative methods. This study will document and evaluate consultants' activities against established outputs and provide the GAVI Alliance and government of Nigeria recommendations to improve and maximize the benefits of the program. An evaluation framework will be developed to guide the study.
