I will be traveling Moi University Teaching Hospital/Academic Model Providing Access To Healthcare (AMPATH) in Eldoret Kenya.
The specific goal for my travel is to assist with creation and implementation of a community based survey evaluating the impact of an innovative program called "Bridging Income Generation With Group Integrated Care" (BIGPIC), an integrated program that faciliates health and wealth enhancing activities, and its effects on the linkage and retention of rural populations in local community health programs, and ultimately on outcomes particularly in
cardiovascular diseases.
I also plan to observe current teaching and clinical practice at Moi Teaching Hospital and in other rural community health center settings. I plan to both teach and learn from local faculty in cardiovascular medicine and echocardiographic imaging in resource poor settings.
My overarching goal is to examine their innovative initiatives providing clinical care, training and research in global cardiovascular diseases. The hope is to build a partnership between Johns Hopkins and Moi University/AMPATH to allow future involvement in the implementation
of research programs to address the prevalence, prevention and treatment of cardiovascular disease in East Africa.
