Maternal Influenza Research

This is a randomized trial of maternal influenza vaccine to evaluate its impact on respiratory infections and influenza on mothers and their infants through 6 months postpartum in rural Nepal. The trial is due to start during the summer. Women of child bearing age will be identified through a census and pregnancy surveillance will be undertaken in this population. Women who are or become pregnant will be consented and randomized to receive influenza vaccine or placebo. Their health and that of their infants will be followed during pregnancy and through 6 months post delivery. The student will help with logistics, evaluate the quality of the data collected, study documentation, and data management.
