Obstetric Fistula Research
As part of a new project starting at a field site established in rural Nepal in 1989, women of child-bearing age will be administered a questionnaire screening for obstetric fistula. All women who screen positive and a set of matched controls will be brought to our local clinic where they will undergo a pelvic examination and more detailed risk factor questionnaire. The aim of the study is to evaluate the screening questionnaire's ability to identify women with obstetric fistula, to estimate the prevalence of the condition in rural Nepal, and to identify risk factors associated with this condition in a South Asian setting. The student will help with logistics, evaluate the quality of the data collected, study documentation, data management, and preliminary analysis.
