The Immunization Impact on Cognition Outcomes and School Monitoring Outcomes Study (I-COSMOS)
This is a pilot study to assess the feasibility of establishing a cohort within the selected communities in Palwal to assess the link between complete immunization by age 2 years, and cognitive outcomes.
I-COSMOS is a one-year pilot study. In this pilot study, we will enroll children between 18-59m in the Palwal district in Haryana, India. We will collect immunization history, nutritional and clinical assessments, conduct cognitive function tests, and behavioral tests. We will also complete a follow-up visit at six months, where we re-administer these assessments. Through this pilot, we aim to assess the feasibility of looking at the larger objective that complete, timely immunization results in community children free from vaccine-preventable illnesses, who are able to attain their full cognitive potential. We will also asses if this leads to a productive society that achieves higher economic returns, and demonstrates that complete and timely immunization of children is an investment in human capital.
