Influence of oral traditions on the intersection of HIV, gender, and health behaviors in Swaziland

Swaziland is a small, land-locked sub-Saharan nation that currently has the highest prevalence of HIV/AIDS in the world. While the rates of infection are exceptionally high in all Swazi populations, young women are at an even higher rate of risk, with prevalence among pregnant women between the ages of 20-35 hovering at nearly 50% (UNDP, 2009).
