Promoting the health of Nepali widows and their children: A human rights perspective

Widows in Nepal  represent an especially vulnerable segement of the Nepali population, as they are subject to discrimination and to isolation from social and cultural activities. We have been collaborating with an Nepali NGO working for rights of Nepali widows since 2011. In partnership, we have investigated widows' barriers to healthcare, experiences of violence, and the consequences of the stigma these women and their children face. Started as a pilot study funded by the Center for Public Health and Human Rights at Hopkins, some formative research has been conducted and we are at the stage of needing students to help with activities related to validation of measures and to help in the development of larger intervention projects.
