Resident

Uganda

During my elective I will travel to Uganda to work on a project detailing intensive care unit (ICU) infections in Kampala. There has been minimal prior study investigating the primary infectious drivers of ICU admissions in Uganda. Given the increasing global connections and ease of transit, infections easily move across borders and around the world, as multiple recent pandemics have shown, making this study applicable outside of Uganda. This research will allow me to be involved in a project relevant to both infectious disease and global health, both of which I intend to pursue in the future. Further, it will allow me to gain hands-on practical experience in project design, data collection and analysis, and sythesis for publication. These skills will be relevant to a fellowship in infectious disease and my future research goals.
