mCare: Enhancing survival of high-risk neonates in rural S. Asia
Start Date: 06/15/2011
End Date: 06/15/2012
The goal of this project is to develop and test an integrated mobile phone-based data system that links rural community health workers (CHW) and their clients (pregnant women and newborns), in order to 1) vastly improve pregnancy and birth registration, 2) effectively target the delivery of care to high risk mothers and newborns, and 3) enhance survival of preterm and growth restricted infants in resource-poor settings. By creating database-supported linkages between CHWs and their clients using a simple mHealth technology framework, we will increase rates and completeness of early pregnancy registration, improve accuracy and timeliness of recording pregnancy outcomes, assure on-demand CHW access to client data (eg. due date, pregnancy history, risk assessment score) and optimize the timing and content of essential antenatal and postnatal care/counseling for the mother and newborn.
